Stephen E. Lipka, PhD, CMC
Steve Lipka, President of Avatar Strategic Partners, helps his clients choose, manage, and use information technology to increase profits.
During his 35 years in Information Technology, he has helped companies offering services in marketing and advertising, high tech, market and business information, metals, electronics, and automobile manufacturing, real estate, and pharmaceutical services. For DoD clients, he has worked with organizations to improve aircraft maintenance and design processes, financial management processes, and software development processes. He also launched an online service for HR professionals named a Best Product of 1995 by HR Executive Magazine.
Over the course of his career, he has come to feel strongly that business technology should enable higher profit, streamlined business process, and marketplace competitiveness. While he has helped clients bring underperforming technology and technology organizations up to expectations, his primary focus is on significant leaps in capability. Starting with the client's key business goals, he works with them to design and implement strategic IT initiatives that make business sense. His clients report they can comfortably delegate leadership of initiatives to Steve while they manage other matters.
He received his B.S. in Physics and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has spoken and chaired sessions at several conferences and has taught software engineering and database management at Boston University and Old Dominion University, and, most recently, taught at Bentley University. He is currently a member of the Institute of Management Consultants USA, which has granted him the CMC designation; only 1% of consultants have been awarded this designation. Steve is also President of IMC's New England Chapter. He is a member of the Society for Information Management and a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
